I like diaries as a starter. You can post something on the board or display an image and they will write about it. As the teacher you should also write something along with the students. This encourages them and in Spanish class I can give them examples and ideas with what I write.
I agree with you about using diaries for a starter. We use a similar strategy in science. One of my A placement teachers used a science journal for the students to write down the daily objective, their assignments, and one or two review questions.
ReplyDeleteI see how writing in a foreign language class is enhanced by the teacher writing something along with the students. I learn a lot better when I see others model the expectations like that.

ReplyDeleteI think diaries are a great idea. Have the students illustrate them. :o) Non linguistic representations, visual image links to their vocabulary, for the spatial/visual learners!!
